The eighth Tommy Bahama’s Cafe and Emporium worldwide opens today when the doors swing open to the combination restaurant and haberdashery at Mauna Lani.
Located in some of the most recognized resort areas in the United States, Tommy Bahama was established in 1992 by Tony Margolis, Bob Emfield and Lucio Dalla Gasperina.
The 11,500-square-foot combination store opens at The Shops at Mauna Lani and offers a combination of luxury sportswear shopping and dining experiences at the Tommy Bahama’s Tropical Cafe.
It is the third Tommy Bahama’s location to open in Hawaii — there are also emporiums at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu and at the Shops at Wailea on Maui — but it is the first combination location in Hawaii.
“The center is the epitome of the upscale resort lifestyle and we couldn’t have picked a better location for us,” said Doug Wood, chief operating officer of Tommy Bahama.
“Our ‘life is one long weekend’ philosophy meshes perfectly with the Hawaiian point of view and we’re thrilled to have a second home on the Big Island.”
The retail store will offer the entire collection of sportswear, accessories and footwear for both men and women. Also offered are items for the home, such as pillows, linens and serving pieces as well as candles and holders, and picture frames.
The restaurant will serve both food and drink, including its award-winning Tommy’s World Famous Coconut Shrimp and Pina Colada Cake.
“Our commitment to hospitality is at the core of what we do and we look forward to backing it up with high quality food and drinks and an atmosphere that is casually elegant, comfortable and fun,” said W.C. Wells, president of Tommy Bahama Restaurants.
In addition to the seven combination stores in such locations as Scottsdale, Ariz., Newport Beach, Calif., and Orlando. Fla., there are 38 emporiums throughout the United States, with plans for four more to be open by the end of the year.
Tommy Bahama products are also offered in various national specialty stores in the United States.
